Symbolic Corpus of Ukrainian Folk Songs
This website contains a corpus of 1802 symbolically encoded Ukrainian folk songs in musicXML format with lyrics and metadata. The songs originate from the Podillia, an ethnographic region, is situated in the central-western part of Ukraine. In particular, this corpus includes songs from the central part of Podillia - Vinnytsia oblast, and western part - Khmelnytsky oblast. The corpus consists of three parts: ritual songs, non-ritual songs and children’s songs, and was collected through separate efforts of ~85 folklorists, ethnomusicologists and ethnomusicological expeditions (1954, 1963, 1971, 1972, 1976) between the years 1914 and 2018.
